My CD collection includes everything from
Mancini to Metallica...
Music is as important to me as the air I breathe...
My life has a soundtrack.
I have made major decisions simply based on music.
I can't imagine how different my life would be without it.

I took my son to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra two years in a row. What we experienced is so hard to describe. It is something you have to hear and see for yourself. The audience was an amazing mixture of people from every possible age group and background. It was the most intense and emotional musical experience I have ever had. I didn't think I could possibly enjoy a concert much without having some songs to sing along with, but this was incredible. You should visit their site to see when they will be coming near you, and then HURRY to purchase the tickets. I don't think there can possibly be a bad seat in the house. This show is so visually stimulating it is surely great no matter where you are sitting. Until they visit your town, you should definitely go buy a few of their CDs to hold you over.

My 13 year old son was blown away by this show.

Dan and I took the boys to the Mellencamp Show.

We were in row K and off to the right side of the stage. I slipped in my digital camera and got some pretty decent shots.

I still get chills thinking about the way the wind started building massively as the music to "Crumblin Down" built up. It was very very surreal. The storm added an interesting element to the show.. the spotlights had to be turned out and the stage lights were swinging.. John got soaked and people ran across the stage with squeegees between songs.. Many times long fingers of lightening splayed across the sky during the show. Very nice.

Anyway, enough about the weather. The show was great. I was rather distracted most of the time dealing with my son's stomach ache and trying to keep my digital camera from getting soaked.

Lots of pix are blurry from the water spots on the lens but I am rather pleased with the results.

You can see them here: http://www.jrmints.com/mellencamp/07_28_02/index.html

Thanks again Tony and Denise for the tickets!!!! And thanks for everyone's help in getting my boys to the show. It went very smoothly!!

And thank you to John and the band for "riding out" the storm!!!! You are the best!!! My whole family adores you!

I saw Buffett at Madison Square Garden! The mood was bittersweet in the wake of the Sept. 11 tragedy. Buffett donated all proceeds to a Sept. 11th fund. The energy was great. Walter Cronkite was in attendance and Ed Bradley got up on stage and sang "The 60-Minute Man".

"Regarding the lifestyles of Parrot Heads, they'll have to speak for themselves. My interpretation of Parrot Heads is that they're basically pretty normal people with a slight strain of insanity in their makeup.

I've never really instructed them in anything; I've just given them the lyrics. Parrot Heads are very creative in their dress code. They have taken it to the absolute limit of tastelessness.

I see Parrot Head style as a symbol. Out of all the causes available, Parrot Head-ism seems to be one these people can affectionately embrace." -Jimmy Buffett

Jimmy's note regaurding the Sept. 11 tragedy and the scheduled shows for that week:

Dear Parrot Heads,

We have postponed our shows in the Indianapolis and Chicago areas this week simply because I feel it is time to for all of us to be with our families and friends, and take stock of all the events that occurred yesterday and their repercussions. I have been the purveyor of many good nights of fun across this country but I feel that now is not the time to dance. To all our fans I would simply say do what you can in this serious and tragic hour, from donating blood to talking to your children. Lord Buckley, the great old hip comedian, once said, "Terror is the absence of humor, and humor is the absence of terror." Our sense of humor is one of our most precious natural resources as Americans, and we will put this tragedy behind us and dance again. And when we do, Jimmy Buffett & the Coral Reefer band will be there to lead the parade. Until then, keep your fins up and God Bless America.

1996 - James Taylor, Wichita, KS

April 13, 2000!
I will be seeing Jimmy Buffett in concert again on that date! He will be at the Dallas Starplex. It is about an 8 hour drive from here, but I am ready! Got my tickets in the mail today (Feb. 29) and can hardly wait. The seats kinda suck but could be worse.

I lost my Buffett innocence. Until that date, I was simply a mild mannered fan. I have known a Parrot Head or two in my life, but never truly been able to relate. I knew I was a fan of Jimmy & his music, but certainly didn't think I ranked as a true Parrot Head. From what I have been told about my reaction to the weekend in Kansas City I feel I have sprouted my pinfeathers, and wow do they ever itch!

As of 1:04 PM on 3/19/97:

Personally, I haven't been to many concerts... The most recent concert attended was TOOL. They came to Wichita, March 7th. I tried my darndest to get some pictures. Before the concert I stashed two disposable cameras in my bra...on in each cup. I was frisked at the door, but they didn't linger too long in once place.

When the concert started I started making my way to the front of the crowd. This is always fun since I am 5'3" tall. I have a bit of an advantage in that I am close to the floor and have a low center of gravity...then again, I am so short, I absolutely have to be front row to see anything.

On my way to the front, I met up with a guy and his girlfriend...we struck up a conversation and I ended up handing him one of my cameras. Of course we lost each other very quickly, but I did manage to get to the front. At one point, I felt someone reach up the back of my shirt and try to unhook my bra..but for whatever reason, they stopped. I wasn't worried about the bra as much as the camera stashed in it. After about 5 minutes of trying to get my arms up from my side, I finally managed to take a picture. The second I snapped the shutter, a huge arm came from the front and a security guard grabbed my other arm and started screaming at me to give him the camera or he would kick me out. I tried to get away, but he wouldn't let go. Eventually the guard convinced a guy behind me to pick me up and hand me to him. I dropped the camera to the floor, I am sure it became dust instantly. The guards escorted me around the stage and led me back to the rear of the crowd.

Back by the soundboard, I met up with the guy who had my other camera. We chatted for a bit and I was off again to take more shots. I used the whole roll.

Unfortunately, the film, though it was 800 speed, was still not fast enough to get prints from. I was surprised, but had never used one of those little cameras before and had no idea what the shutter speed on it might be. Evidently it was too fast. Oh well, I had fun trying!

I used to go see Pantera when they were so popular only in North Texas. I have a large photo album filled with pix of them from the late 80s.

I saw Anthrax in a small bar in New Jersey back in 1987. They were playing in the small bars that helped them get their start, as a way to say thank you. It was incredible to see such a major band in a bar that only held 50 or so people. I was front row and center and caught a guitar pick!

In 1992 I attended two Metallica concerts. One in January and one in September when they toured with GnR. I only stayed to see Faith No More and Metallica. I was front and center for this one, too, till I passed out. I am only 5'3" tall and I was wearing all black...Texas Stadium has an open top and this concert was during the heat of the day...there wasn't a lot of air to be found at my height. :) I had to be picked up and lifted over the barricade...but it was incredible!!!

In the summer of 1995 I went to see Hootie and the Blowfish and Dave Matthews (consecutive evenings) I must say that Dave was absolutely wonderful! I cannot wait to see him again!

That same summer, I won tickets to see Duran Duran in a parking lot in Dallas. The opening band was Dishwalla. Dishwalla ROCKED and DD was.. eh... kinda old looking. :)
